Comedy As Storytelling: How to Write a Joke

Whether you’re looking to get into stand-up, add humor to your storytelling, or just understand what makes a good joke, this session will walk you through:

  • The basics of joke structure and why it works. 
  • Types of jokes and how to use them effectively. 
  • Hands-on exercises to help you write your own original material.

The workshop combines short lectures, stand-up video clips, and interactive activities to make learning fun and engaging. By the end, you’ll leave with a joke you’ve written yourself and a new appreciation for the craft of comedy.

This class is open to all skill levels—no prior experience needed. Come ready to learn, write, and laugh!

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of this 3-hour workshop, participants will be able to:

  1.  Write original jokes using basic joke-writing techniques.
  2. Identify and apply different types of jokes, such as one-liners, observational humor, and punchlines.
